How Patients Academy keeps information useful and current.
Our educational resources are designed to support informed conversations with healthcare professionals. Clinical accuracy and review are treated as part of publication, not as an afterthought.
1. Clinical approval before production and publication
Every script is reviewed and approved by an appropriately qualified clinician before a video is produced. The finished video is then reviewed again before it is published. Material is checked for accuracy, balance, plain language, safety-netting and relevance to the intended audience.
2. A finite clinical lifetime
Medical knowledge, guidance and available treatments change. Each educational resource therefore shows the date it was last clinically reviewed and its next planned review. A review can be brought forward whenever important evidence, guidance or clinical context changes. If a planned review date passes, the resource is automatically shown as “Under review”.
A historical publication date does not guarantee that a resource remains current. The status shown on the individual resource page is the key indicator.
3. Sources and corrections
Clinical statements are based on recognised UK guidance, such as guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). Each resource page lists the main guidance it draws on once that list has been checked against the clinically approved script, alongside links to further reliable information for patients. If a material error or clinically important change is identified, the resource is reassessed and corrected, replaced or withdrawn.
4. Digital presentation and transparency
Some videos are presented by a digital avatar and voice of the reviewing clinician, created with his consent. Where this is the case, it is stated on the resource page and in the video information. Digital tools are used only to present content that has already been clinically approved; they are not permitted to bypass clinical approval or change approved clinical meaning without further review.
5. Accessibility
We aim for clear spoken language, readable visual design, accurate captions and a written transcript for each video. Accessibility is treated as part of the educational content itself.
6. General education, not individual advice
Patients Academy does not diagnose conditions, interpret individual results or recommend personalised treatment through public educational material or social-media comments. Personal clinical decisions should be discussed with your own healthcare team.
7. Feedback
If you believe a resource may be unclear or out of date, please contact hello@patientsacademy.co.uk. Feedback can trigger an earlier clinical review.
